I am an Unlimited Licensed General Contractor, Licensed Home Inspector, and award-winning custom home builder based in Hillsborough, North Carolina. For more than 30 years, I’ve built luxury, high-performance custom homes across Orange County, Chapel Hill, and the Triangle, focusing on craftsmanship, energy efficiency, accessibility, and exceptional client service.As founder of Collins Design-Build, I’m proud that our company is consistently ranked by the Triangle Business Journal as one of the top custom home builders in the region. I hold several leading industry credentials, including Accredited Master Builder, Master Certified Green Professional, and Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist.My career began in building materials and home improvement retail before moving into leadership roles with local, regional, and national home builders associations. These experiences built a strong foundation in field operations, construction management, and quality-driven processes. While helping launch a national builder’s Triangle division, I closed more than $6 million in production homes in one year and earned the 2001 Builder of the Year award.I’ve been honored with recognitions such as National Certified Green Professional Builder of the Year, Home Builder of the Year for Durham, Orange & Chatham Counties, multiple STARS Awards, MAME Building Company of the Year, and a Parade of Homes Gold Perfect Score.Service to the industry has been an important part of my career. I have served as President of the Home Builders Association of Durham, Orange & Chatham Counties, Regional Vice President for the North Carolina Home Builders Association, and President of the Hillsborough/Orange County Chamber of Commerce. In 2018, I was appointed to the North Carolina Home Inspectors Licensing Board.In addition to custom home building, I work as a residential construction expert witness, supporting attorneys, homeowners, and insurers with cases involving construction defects, building standards, and accessibility concerns.I am also an approved Continuing Education Instructor for the NC Licensing Board for General Contractors, a speaker for the National Association of Home Builders, and an instructor for Duke University’s OLLI Program, teaching courses on aging-in-place, green building, and construction management.My purpose is simple: build better homes, serve my clients well, and raise the standard of residential construction in North Carolina.
