In this role, I will serve as Cone Health\'s First Systemwide Executive Director of Advanced Practice Provider Services. Responsible for determining the strategic vision, clinical standards and workforce priorities for Advanced Practice Providers across the entire Cone Health Network. I will also support the sustained culture of Advanced Practice Providers leadership, service, collaboration, and clinical distinction. In partnership with other clinical executive leaders across Cone Health Medical Group and Ambulatory Services, I will direct strategic thinking around maximizing the Advanced Practice Providers impact on organizational growth, service line growth, and value based healthcare delivery.

ABOUT CESAR AVILES

Accomplished, innovative clinical leader with over two decades of surgical experience in multiple specialties including trauma, surgical critical care, organ transplantation, cardio-thoracic, and hepato-biliary surgery. Served as the Chief Advanced Practice Provider (APP) for the division of surgical oncology and as the Director for the surgical specialties APP fellowship at Atrium Health (AH). Recognized by peers as a visionary when it comes to interdisciplinary collaboration and developing new care models. Also known for the instrumental role and the successful implementation of Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) guidelines. The utilization of ERAS guidelines led to a reduction in length of stay, readmission rates and most importantly, has improved patient care and outcomes for surgical patients. My Doctor of Nursing Practice scholarly work and collaboration with an interdisciplinary team led to AH being named the first Academic Center of Excellence in the United States by the International ERAS Society.I earned my bachelor’s and master’s in nursing from the University of North Carolina-Charlotte, and my Doctor of Nursing Practice from Duke University. While attending Duke University, I was selected as the Duke University Scholar Program Fellow, a prestigious recognition that is given to a top doctoral student. I was selected due to exceptional merit, interdisciplinary interests, evidence of successful collaboration and mentorship. In 2018, I completed the North Carolina Nurses Association Leadership Academy. In 2019, I graduated from the Duke-Johnson and Johnson Leadership Academy, which was focused on addressing health disparities and social determinants of health on vulnerable populations.I have published several journal articles, presented abstracts, received invitations to speak on various platforms, and received multiple accolades acknowledging the exemplary contributions to the growth and improvement of the APP profession as well as patient care.
