About John Cervantes

As a student at Northeastern University\'s College of Social Sciences and Humanities, I have grown deeply committed to the idea that a holistic education safeguards collective wellbeing. I hope to pursue a career in teaching to provide my skills and knowledge as a public servant to combat institutional mistrust in education. As a history major, I believe that understanding the past is critical for shaping a better future, and this conviction has driven me to dedicate my personal academic research to studying the global efforts for universal public education and how these policies and movements influence state capacity. In my time as an undergraduate, I have honed vital research, analytical, and communication skills that enable me to comprehend complex historical and political issues and effectively communicate them. I can use my skills to help foster, even in a small way, a passion for public history, which educational and governmental institutions can leverage to empower informed and engaged citizens. I am eager to contribute my knowledge and enthusiasm to undertake challenges in public education, where my unique perspective and expertise can play a pivotal role in nurturing youth achievement and civic welfare.
