About Celina Hernandez
I am a geologist with over 20 years in the environmental investigation and remediation sector. Field work was my preference for many years and tasks included water sampling to various site assessments (soil, soil sampling, soil logging, etc). Eventually, I wanted more and began managing projects. In 2011, I took it one step further and obtained my California Professional Geologist license. I left environmental consulting in 2017 to work as a State regulator at the San Francisco Bay Water Quality Control Board (aka Region 2 or Regional Water Board) in the cleanup division. The Regional Water Board\'s job is to protect and improve the quality of the natural water resources within the designated region. For Region 2 these resources include San Francisco and Tomales Bays, the Ocean, streams that flow into the Bays and Ocean (west of Antioch), and groundwater. We do this by regulating discharges to the waters through a variety of permits and by requiring cleanups of unplanned or illegal discharges. Region 2 is one of nine regional water boards in California under the State Water Resources Control Board. Region 2 has jurisdiction over the following counties: Alameda, Contra Costa, San Francisco, Santa Clara (north of Morgan Hill), San Mateo, Marin, Sonoma, Napa, and Solano.
