As a clinical and research assistant with Dr. Friedrich Boettner, a hip and knee replacement surgeon at HSS, I’ve conducted research on periprosthetic joint infections and total knee replacement for varus and valgus deformities. I’ve written multiple manuscripts, measured hip-knee-ankle angles on xray, analyzed retrospective data, and participated in study design. As a scribe, I do patient intake, patient examinations, review x-rays, present cases to Dr. Boettner, and discuss treatment options with him. In hip replacement surgery, I help with research by using technology to take measurements of x-rays during the operation to compare the replaced hip with the non-surgical hip. I’ve loved honing my clinical skills, learning how to do patient intake and exams, learning about orthopedic surgery techniques and treatments from Dr. Boettner, and conducting clinical research.
