About Cecília Gurgel
I am a high school student at Winchester Thurston School, originally from Brazil, with a passion for environmental policies and sustainable development. In 2021, I co-founded a non-profit organization dedicated to increasing recycling rates and combating deforestation in Brazil. As part of this mission, I designed a carbon footprint calculator and I am an active volunteer in the “Planta Natal” project, an urban afforestation initiative that successfully planted trees in Natal, Northeast Brazil. Currently, I am leading “RN + Verde,” a large-scale reforestation project in collaboration with the State Government of Rio Grande do Norte, which aims to restore approximately 500 areas across the Northeast region of Brazil. At Winchester Thurston, I have the pleasure to serve as the President of Climate Changers, co-leader of the Latino Student Union, and assistant art editor of the Sigma Academic Magazine.
