ABOUT CHAD BURKS
Chad likes to be on the ‘bleeding edge’ whether technology or pharmacy. Chad began his career at Walgreens in 2003. His first ‘bleeding edge’ pharmacy experience was in 2006 when he helped to start Westmoreland Pharmacy. His second came shortly thereafter when he went to Sullivan University as part of the inaugural class (2011). During his time at Sullivan, he not only completed his PharmD, but two master’s degrees as well, an MBA (Master of Business Administration) and MSMIT (Master of Science in Managing Information Technology). Westmoreland quickly grew from one store to three. Chad was instrumental starting each store and generated quite the patient following. He was even voted Independent Pharmacist of the Year by the Indiana Pharmacists Association in 2018. Another ‘bleeding edge’ opportunity for Chad was changing the business model from an on-demand fill model to a more scheduled approach synchronizing patients to specific days. With this new approach came more opportunity for MTM and other enhanced services. This provided Chad with yet another ‘bleeding edge.’ Chad and Westmoreland Pharmacy, along with several other partners, started the CPESN (Community Pharmacy Extended Service Network) of Indiana. Chad served as Lead Network Facilitator coordinating efforts statewide. CPESN of Indiana focuses on patients and provides enhanced services to improve healthcare outcomes and decrease total healthcare costs. Of course, 2020 had a different ‘bleeding edge’ with the COVID-19 pandemic. This created need for more accessible clinical services (including COVID-19 vaccinations). Chad was actively involved in developing Westmoreland Clinical Services to bring even more clinical services (including MTM, CCM, RPM, POCT) to the pharmacy space. In 2021, Chad founded PGxPharmD to provide another bleeding edge service. Pharmacogenomics combines a lot of technology with a lot of pharmacy, so it’s a natural fit! His job is to help patients get tested, interpret their results during a consultation, and work with both patients and their prescribers to adjust medications accordingly. Additionally, he can help prescribers implement this technology into their practice. Now in 2024 Chad joins the True Rx Health Strategists team as Director of Clinical Operations with a particular focus in starting and implementing pharmacogenomics programs.
