About Chris Carr

I am Chris Carr, an equity and diversity consultant, coach, and speaker. The purpose of my work is to re-humanize culture, and empower every employee to bring their authentic best to the workplace. My work is intentionally disruptive and confrontational and does not meet racists and sexists where they are. It is not performative and it\'s not a checklist of what to say in order to absolve anyone of responsibility. My method is inspired by my academic background and it is built on not only understanding race or identity formation in America, but about hegemony, power and oppression, and its influence on social and cultural dynamics. For the past 20 years, the fruits of my approach have been in building more equitable spaces in governmental organizations, academic institutions, and private businesses. Some of my work includes the introduction of EEO, title VII and title IX for Howard University’s General Counsel, educating the pre-IPO 400-people team at Bark Box to re-think its corporate culture, and introducing the concept of identity to the blockchain-platform Buffalo Trails, among many. In my work I build workshop session for HR, business, and management teams through three lenses: the legal, the pragmatic, and the moral human perspectives. I train HR teams on legal statutes that relate to protected classes, diversity, and workplace. I unpack with business teams the pragmatic side of diversity. It\'s been proven that companies with more diversity provide higher work satisfaction and outperform financially in comparison with homogenous cultures. I empower all company employees by providing language to propel difficult conversations and teach businesses to reconcile any conflicts that might arise.
