About Chad Burns

Over the past 15 years, I grew my skills through a variety of positions that has allowed me to develop into an experienced PM & a focus leader. My first 3 years was spent as a part of the Circuit City Finance Trainee program that afforded me the opportunity to learn multiple skill sets right out of college. The first year was as an Accounting Analyst for 50+ retail stores & the advertising overhead accts. My next rotation was as a Supervisor in the Customer Service dept. of the company’s credit card bank. I supervised a team of 10-15 associates & use lessons learned from the position in management today. Next, as an Auditor, is where I began to learn operations & the importance of processes & procedures within an organization. A year later, I was able to be a part of the company’s Six Sigma program and get introduced to project mgmt. I remained an Auditor until 2004 before officially switching my career focus to project mgmt. In 2004, I move to the Store Services division as a PM where the focus was on expanding the retail footprint in the market & developing new store formats for the future. We also focused on refining the store opening process to become more efficient. In December of 2007 I became a certified project manager and have continued to build my knowledge of project management. In October of 2009, I began with the VA Workers’ Compensation Commission, where I’ve been able to continue my growth as a project manager & a leader. My change in industry, allowed for my first direct involvement with software development project management. My focus at the Commission has been the evolution of business process & procedures from the legacy data entry Judicial Case Management System to a task driven web based one. In May of 2011, I formally stood up an Enterprise Project Management Office to oversee this evolution and continued use of technology to drive the Commission’s goals. The PMO is continuing to evolve & in May of 2012, a team of analysts were added.
