About Christina Briscoe
In 2011, graduated from UMBC with a degree in Interdisciplinary Studies, focused in Anthropology and Public Health. Outside academics, I had the opportunity to learn through volunteering at a needle exchange in Baltimore and a study abroad program on race and health equity in Salvador, Brazil. After graduation, I worked as a HIV clinical research coordinator, spent a year in Salvador, Brazil on a Fulbright Research Grant and volunteered in Peru with Partners in Health. In medical school, I was able to continue community engagement in the Global Health at Home Initiative, with Latinx community health workers and Dr. Luna in Charlottesville Virginia, as I found a passion for pediatric neurology during my clerkships.During my completion of pediatric neurology/neurodevelopmental disabilities residency at Boston Children\'s Hospital, and acting as Chief Resident 20••••22, I had the opportunity to meet a truly amazing group of physicians, researchers, nurses, social workers, families, and patients that have contributed in remarkable ways to my personal growth and development, and for whom I am very grateful. In 20••••23, completed a Masters in Education at the Harvard Graduate School of Education with the Zuckerman Fellowship Program, before going on to a fellowship in Pediatric Epilepsy. I also participated in forming the Ukraine Neurology Initiative (https://brothersbrother.org/focus/ukraine-neurology/) and have joined the board in January 2023 for Brother\'s Brother Foundation. My academic passions are around improving equity in pediatric neurology care through liberatory education and collaboration with families. I am grateful to be supported by the Harvard Medical School Diversity and Inclusion Community Partnership Faculty Fellowship (https://dicp.hms.harvard.edu/dicp-programs/faculty/faculty-fellowships/dicp) for this work- Addressing local/national inequities for epilepsy care, in particular infantile spasms through collaborative research that centers BIPOC family perspectives and strengths;(https://answers.childrenshospital.org/infantile-spasms-equity/; https://tinyurl.com/msx338ky/)- Providing and assessing the impact of language-concordant care and community health workers in epilepsy (supported by the Child Neurology Foundation)- Collaborating to reduce inequities in access to newborn screening, leading to preventable disabilities (https://brothersbrother.org/focus/newborn-screening/)
