ABOUT CAYLI LUCIA

Inspired by my Filipino grandparents\' dedication to quality education for all (that led them to immigrating to the United States for better schooling opportunities for their children), my own experiences as a twice-exceptional student, and demonstrated needs in the special education classrooms in which I have taught (from Pershing Elementary to Great Minds Learning Community), I have found a passion for accessibility in the classroom, medical sphere, and beyond. This passion inspired me to enroll in the Communication and Leadership and Public Policy programs at the University of Texas at Austin. Within these programs, I have studied the intersection of education policy, disability advocacy, philanthropic fundraising, and the legislative and judicial processes. This line of coursework has led me towards writing numerous pieces of mock policy to better public education in the state of Texas, analyses regarding venue shopping and political protest in the Disability Rights movement, and social media giving campaign management plans for local non-profits like Down Home Ranch. In May 2023, I graduated from UT Austin with a B.S. in Communication and Leadership, certification in Public Policy, 3.75 GPA, Dean\'s List recognition, numerous student involvement honor cords, and a role as the Disability Graduation featured commencement speaker. In the future, I hope to earn my Juris Doctor degree to protect the existing rights of disabled people (namely children and veterans) through judicial intervention in the immediate future while working towards making education and healthcare more accessible through legislation in the long-term.
