About Laura Caulfield
Laura\'s interests bridge the divide between hardware and software, with a focus on flash-based storage systems for cloud server hardware. She currently works as a software developer on Microsoft Azure\'s Ultradisk team, whose service delivers high throughput, high IOPS, and consistent low latency disk storage for Azure IaaS VMs.During her time with the Cloud Server Infrastructure team, she led the technical aspects of the CloudSSD program. This includes creating the first few versions of the specification, architecting the SSD performance test tool StorScore and building industry-wide support for Zoned Namespaces for NVMe devices. In graduate school, she characterized flash chips to find unpublished behaviors and trends, and then designed mechanisms to exploit these characteristics to expose new functionality and address application-specific requirements for performance, energy efficiency and reliability.
