ABOUT CATINA TAYLOR
I wear multiple hats with pride—Lawyer, Educator, Advocate, Entrepreneur, and Nonprofit Leader. Each of these hats has uniquely prepared me for the work I do today. My journey began in July after earning my law degree, when I chose to step into the world of teaching instead of pursuing a legal career. Responding to the teacher shortage in Kansas City Public Schools, I embarked on a teaching career that lasted 18 years. During this time, I balanced teaching in traditional public, independent, and charter schools while also navigating the responsibilities of parenting. These experiences provided me with a clear lens into education, enabling me to engage actively with students, parents, teachers, administrators, and district-level leaders across both suburban and urban educational landscapes. My involvement goes beyond the classroom. I\'m a dedicated advocate and resource for parents, colleagues, educational institutions, and the entrepreneurial community. My deep understanding of the educational ecosystem is the result of serving in various capacities. I\'ve contributed to strategic planning teams, programming and outreach committees, education initiatives, and the founding principal hiring teams for multiple charter schools. I\'ve also authored the MO State Education Agenda for the Human Dignity & Economic Justice Coalition and led various educational workshops and presentations. My commitment to education innovation led me to develop a new school model in 2014. Through the Lean Lab Fellowship, the 4.0 Tiny Schools Fellowship, and New Schools Venture Fund, I piloted this model to meet the needs of 21st-century learners. Beyond education, I\'m deeply rooted in Kansas City\'s startup community. I launched DREAMS Consulting, my legal, education, and business consulting business, in 2015. During the pandemic, I supported families thrust into education by providing digital content to structure their learning days effectively. In 2022, I introduced the Reading the Phonics Way Curriculum through my nonprofit, DREAMS KC, aimed at empowering parents to deliver evidence-based curriculum to Pre-K through 3rd-grade students. My academic journey includes a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and a Paralegal Certificate from Avila University, a Juris Doctorate from the University of Kansas School of Law, and a Missouri Teacher Certificate in Secondary Social Studies. Currently, I\'m enrolled in LETRS Training and a Social Enterprise training program, continually seeking to enhance my skills and knowledge.
