Cathy Miyagi is an ordinary Vancouverite struggling to write this bio and pay rent. She likes to do it all…an accountant who can write a killer essay without using a calculator or AI. Cathy took a career detour into broadcast journalism to hone in on her writing and communications skills. At BNN Bloomberg, she interviewed Canada\'s top business leaders and politicians on various topics from trade wars and bond yields to pipelines and the carbon tax. Cathy’s professional background is in finance and risk management consulting; She has on-the-ground experience in financial systems (SaaS) implementation and process redesign. She\'s also managed high-profile insolvency cases as part of PwC\'s Corporate Advisory and Restructuring practice, and was a Sr. Financial Analyst providing strategic advice to executives in the B.C. public service. At MNP, she worked directly with B.C.’s First Nations in developing strategic plans and policies, conducting business feasibility studies, and facilitating community engagement sessions. She’s a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA, CMA), a graduate of the UBC Sauder School of Business (Diploma in Accounting) and has a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations and a Masters in Journalism from the University of British Columbia. Cathy’s passionate about financial fluency education and making business and economic news relatable to the general audience. She brings forth stories that financial statements usually don\'t tell.
