WORK HISTORY
Wellbeing Mentor @Shenley Brook End School
Milton Keynes, GB
Supporting secondary school students as a Wellbeing Mentor within the school’s Support and Wellbeing Hub is a vital role aimed at nurturing the mental and emotional health of young people. As a wellbeing mentor, I provide one-to-one guidance and group work to students dealing with a wide range of challenges, from academic pressures and social anxieties to personal issues like family difficulties or low self-esteem.In this role, I am a trusted point of contact for students who may be struggling with the demands of school life. I create a safe, confidential space where students can talk openly about their feelings, helping them to feel heard and understood without judgment. A key part of my work involves helping students to build resilience. This can include teaching relaxation and mindfulness techniques, exploring ways to manage academic workloads, or working through interpersonal conflicts. I am also mindful of the developmental needs of teenagers, helping them understand and regulate their emotions, develop a positive sense of self, and cultivate healthy coping mechanisms.Collaboration with teachers, pastoral staff, and parents may also be an essential aspect of the role, ensuring a holistic approach to each student’s well-being. The Support and Wellbeing Hub provides an accessible resource for students who might otherwise struggle in silence, ensuring they have a support system in place. The role not only helps students in the short term but also equips them with lifelong skills to manage their mental health and emotional well-being.
