About Catherine McNeill Kummer
I lead marketing and communications at the Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS), where I get to work with a group of individuals shaping how one of the region’s most critical public services shows up. How we show up to riders, stakeholders, employees and the broader community. My work spans brand strategy, customer engagement, media relations, executive communications and crisis response, all in service of building trust, growing ridership and advancing long-term transit and mobility goals connecting more people to jobs, education, healthcare and each other.My career bridges the private, nonprofit, and public sectors, offering me a rare vantage point on how strategy translates into action and how storytelling accelerates both. In local government, I have supported citywide climate and resilience initiatives through the Bloomberg American Cities Climate Challenge with NRDC, translating complex policy into practical, publicly understood outcomes. In the private sector, I spent nearly a decade at NASCAR, ultimately as Senior Director of Green Innovation, where I led national initiatives with Fortune 100 and 500 companies inside a fast-paced, highly visible organization.Across sectors, I’m known for bringing clarity to complexity, aligning leadership around shared goals and communicating in ways that are both credible and compelling. I believe the strongest strategies are the ones people understand and want to be part of.I hold a B.A. in Journalism and Mass Communications the School of Journalism and Mass Communications at UNC Chapel Hill, an M.A. in Sustainability from Wake Forest University and have completed executive education in Sustainability Leadership at Harvard University.
