ABOUT CATHERINE PARROTTA

The Boston Marathon bombing aftermath and trial. A Red Sox World Series run, and win. Security along the US-Canada border. Daily traffic snafus. The stories are vastly different, but I’ve reported on all of them with one goal: to make a difference by giving viewers the information they need as they go through their day.I know what makes a compelling story. And for the past 18 years as an on-air television reporter and anchor in New England, it’s been my privilege to tell those stories. A thirst for learning is key. Each day on the job brings me a new topic to quickly master before I translate that information into easy-to-understand content and deliver it with a thoughtful and engaging approach both on-air and across social media platforms. I’ve earned three regional Emmy nominations along the way.My entry into my chosen career was driven by a deep desire to help others. As I watched major world events unfold, I realized how critical it was to provide accurate information and context to the public. After 11 years of covering news, I took on a new challenge as I transitioned to covering Boston traffic during the morning commute. This led to innovation. Although I started off by reporting on crashes and trouble spots, my coverage evolved as I moved to providing solutions and alternate routes. I map out these routes myself using my own knowledge of the area. In addition to delivering six live reports an hour during a six-hour morning newscast, I dig deeper. I seek out new transit topics to weave into reporter stories, informing the commuter far beyond the daily slow spots. While storytelling is my passion, it isn’t simply confined to news. I have written and self-published three children’s books. I even took on the challenge of hand-painting the illustrations in my most recent story! My other interests include advocating for health awareness and the importance of preventative healthcare. I seize every opportunity to bring these issues into the spotlight through my work on-air and by way of my social media platforms. Additionally, I continue to nurture my lifelong love of the performing arts. As a soprano trained on a scholarship through the Handel and Haydn Vocal Apprenticeship Program for high school soloists, I enjoy fulfilling requests to sing at community events. With my classical ballet and musical theater background, I look to support local dance and theatrical productions whenever possible.
