About Catherine Fitzgerald
I’m a recent NYU Gallatin grad, where I designed my own concentration titled “The (De)Construction of Identity in Everyday Life and Popular Culture.”I studied how identity is created and challenged through everyday life, art, and popular culture, focusing on how race, gender, and sexuality are shaped by spaces like the home and by the stories we tell. Drawing from critical theory, I explored how perception and aesthetics can reinforce or disrupt the categories we use to understand ourselves and each other. My work examined how the ordinary and the spaces we inhabit can become sites of resistance and imagination, opening up possibilities for new ways of seeing and living. I enjoy applying theory to cultural trends and analyzing what trends are and why they emerge. I’m excited to begin my career in the creative industries, where I can bring my research skills, critical thinking, and curiosity to meaningful work.
