ABOUT CATHERINE FARRELL
Award-winning CIM-qualified communications professional with more than 20 year\'s writing experience and over 15 year\'s experience of delivering creative multi-channel communications campaigns, including one underpinning the hugely successful 2016 return of steam locomotive Flying Scotsman to the rails. In my current strategic comms role I specialise in communications aimed at primary care professionals encouraging adoption of new, modern ways of working which benefit both primary care colleagues and patients. In my previous Transformation Directorate role comms activity was focused on driving adoption of digital services such as the NHS App and the new Register with a GP surgery service which enables patients to register with a GP online and is now mandated in all GP practices in England. I was also part of a blended NHS comms team in 2021 which supported the Covid19 vaccination programme.Key achievements include- Leading on comms and engagement planning and delivery increasing uptake of NHS England\'s new online patient registration service from 50 to a third of all practices in England, meeting a ministerial target 6 weeks early. This set the trajectory that saw it included in the GP contract with the aim of all practices offering the service to patients later that year- Leading on NHS App programme communications in a period where user numbers scaled from 2 to 18m due to the introduction of the Covid Pass- Trebling coverage within the first year at the National Railway Museum, one of the most visited museums outside of London - departmental improvements included the development of filming, media relations and media monitoring systems and policies- Leading the campaign around the return of locomotive legend Flying Scotsman to the tracks, which secured extensive national and international coverage including a primetime ITV documentary-Leading the Mallard 75 campaign which won numerous awards for the museum including a national CIPR Excellence Award.
