Hawaii A Voice For Sovereignty, Director Producer. The feature documentary film reveals the struggle of the native people of Hawaii to regain their sovereign rights after the takeover by U.S. business men and the U.S. Government in 1893. The history and present of the position of the people who speak out in the film are represented in the voice of professors, political and cultural leaders, as well as the kanaka maoli, the people of the land. In the beginning of the filming people were hesitant to talk about their needs for sovereign rights. Today as many as people have protested in the streets on Honolulu to speak out for sustainability for their land, their culture, economic and social rights. Hawaii A Voice For Sovereignty was released at the Capitol Building in Washington, DC, screened at the UN meetings for Indigenous rights, at the Pigorini Museum of Ethnography in Rome, the Pacific Peace Forum in Honolulu and more. It was released in 2011 and continues to be a source of education and permanent collection of the College of William and Mary, the University of Canterbury New Zealand, the University of Hawaii Manoa and other institutions.
