As a medical assistant, I am responsible for taking patient vitals and collecting medical history. During clinic procedures, I ensure a sterile environment, assist by preparing bandages or holding open incisions, and explain treatment procedures and post-op instructions. I also change dressings and remove drains and stitches. Acting a liaison between the patient and doctor, I often triage over the phone and collect important information about complications that arise post-surgery and determine the proper course of care after consulting the surgeon. In the future, I am excited to have opportunities assisting in the operating room.
