ABOUT ANDREA PICHÉ
Andrea Piché is Senior Program Lead at Healthcare Excellence Canada and a Human Factors Engineering Consultant at Human Factors North. She earned her Bachelors and Masters degrees in Industrial Engineering at the University of Toronto. Andrea is also the founder and President of Globally Engaged Youth, a non-profit organization that teaches elementary students about empathetic, collaborative problem-solving through a Model United Nations program called YouthNation. Andrea is a leader in health technology safety. She has led human factors evaluations of health technologies to support capital procurement processes and commercial product development cycles. She has several publications on this topic and recently co-authored an e-book titled Human Factors for Health Technology Safety (available for free download at ifmbe.org). Andrea is an expert in proactive risk management and using observational methods to identity risks and their causal factors. Her ethnographic field work in oncology safety led to the development of strategic priorities for improving the safe delivery of IV ambulatory chemotherapy in Canada. Her ethnographic work in infusion safety has supported the development of provincial recommendations on improving the safety administration of multiple intravenous infusions and a series of interactive training tools to address technology, practice and education issues commonly experienced in intensive care units, emergency departments, and outpatient oncology clinics. Andrea is passionate about expanding the capacity of individuals and organizations to incorporate human factors and safety culture in their day-to-day operations.
