ABOUT CASEY KNUTSON

My academic and professional path has been shaped by a longstanding interest in democracy and a growing commitment to the role communication plays in sustaining it. That perspective strengthened during my studies at the Université de Strasbourg. Attending sessions at the Council of Europe, traveling throughout Europe, and speaking with citizens sharpened my understanding of how political communication shapes the ways people interpret and experience governance in their daily lives. Those experiences reinforced my belief that clear, responsible communication is essential to public understanding and trust.I carried this perspective into finishing my undergraduate studies at Bowling Green State University, where I earned my bachelor’s degree in Political Science with a minor in Communication. There, I built a strong foundation in writing, research, and public messaging, learning how to present complex political ideas in ways that are both accessible and engaging. Representing my university at Model United Nations conferences strengthened my ability to adapt my message to different audiences, think critically under pressure, and communicate with intention. As a fellow with the Progressive Turnout Project, I supported voter outreach efforts aimed at increasing civic participation, and during my internship in a congressional district office, I gained firsthand insight into how effective communication shapes the relationship between elected officials and their constituents.This interest in public-facing work led me to my current role as a Communications Intern with the Women’s Foreign Policy Group. In this position, I create social media content, design outreach materials, and support event promotion to expand the reach of foreign policy programming. Working in a fast-paced environment has strengthened my skills in digital communications, messaging, and content strategy, while solidifying my desire to pursue a career in this field.Additionally, as a graduate student in Georgetown University’s Democracy and Governance program, I am strengthening my focus on media and strategic communication, examining how messaging, public narratives, and information environments shape public perception across complex political and global contexts.As I advance in my studies, I am seeking a full-time internship or entry-level role in communications or public relations where I can contribute as a strong writer, support press and media outreach, develop engaging social media content, and help mission-driven organizations communicate with clarity, purpose, and impact.
