About Casey T. Harris
Dr. Casey T. Harris serves as VP of Crime Risk Modeling for CAP Index®, a privately owned company recognized as the industry leader in crime forecasting data and solutions in the United States, Puerto Rico, United Kingdom, and Canada. In that capacity, Casey oversees the design and implementation of place-focused crime forecasting models, as well as custom client-focused risk models and visualizations. He is an expert in criminology with two decades of experience working alongside industry, community, academic, and policy stakeholders to understand and mitigate crime risk. Since 1988, CAP Index has addressed the needs of companies and government agencies seeking to minimize a broad range of losses involving shrink, general liability, fraud and crimes against persons and property. CAP Index currently serves 81 of the FORTUNE 100 companies, as well as other leading retailers, financial institutions, insurance companies, healthcare organizations and hospitality businesses.Prior to joining CAP Index, Casey served as Professor, Vice Chair, and Director of Graduate Studies in the Department of Sociology and Criminology at the University of Arkansas, where he published over 50 peer-reviewed journal articles, a dozen technical reports, and a book with Oxford University Press. He served on numerous committees with the American Society of Criminology, the editorial boards of several prominent criminology/criminal justice journals, and mentored junior scholars throughout the field. His research has been widely funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF), National Institute of Justice (NIJ), Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA), and Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP). During his time at the University of Arkansas, Casey was one of the founding members of the interdisciplinary Data Science program housed in the College of Engineering, where he taught courses related to data ethics, social data analytics, measurement and operationalization, and data communication.
