About Casey Epstein-Gross

I am a New York based cultural critic, writer, and lover of all things media, culture, art, and politics. I am currently an Associate Editor at Paste Magazine, and my work can be found in Paste, The A.V. Club, Observer, Jezebel, Room Magazine, the Village Sun, and more. Previously, I was an Editorial Intern at Observer and Paste TV, as well as an Editorial Assistant at Wesleyan University Press. I recently graduated Magna Cum Laude from Barnard College at Columbia University with Departmental Honors in Political Science and English. At Columbia, I was a Managing Editor of the Columbia Political Review, as well as a member of the editorial team for the Columbia Journal of Literary Criticism. I was also involved with Gadfly (the undergrad philosophy journal), Ratrock (the undergrad arts/culture journal), and Double Exposure (the undergrad TV/film journal). I spent my first two years of college at Wesleyan University prior to transferring to Barnard, where I also studied English and Government, and additionally a certificate in Social, Cultural, and Critical Theory.Although the majority of my attention these past few years has been focused on cultural commentary and journalism, I am deeply interested not only in producing criticism on works of art and media, but in producing those works themselves. I wrote an honors poetry thesis (\"The World and a Girl Who Isn\'t Part of It,\" supervised by Professor Timothy Donnelly) to complete my Creative Writing concentration for my English major at Barnard, received multiple awards for poetry at Wesleyan (Sophie and Anne Reed Prize for best group of poems, Sarah Hanna Poetry Prize for outstanding poem), was named the Bucks County Youth Laureate in 2021, and have been published in upwards of a dozen publications around the nation (Room Magazine, Permafrost Magazine, Raw Art Review, Soundings East, Route 9 Anthology, Sugar House Review, etc). I am also incredibly invested in theatre and film, having written full scripts and screenplays and acting in numerous plays, such as Top Girls by Caryl Churchill, Fleabag by Phoebe Waller-Bridge, The Same by Edna Walsh, and The Wolves by Sarah DeLappe. Arts aside, I\'ve also always been very active in political spheres; I\'ve organized rallies, testified before legislative hearings, value-coded and written analyses of large batches of political advertisements, and worked as Policy and Communications Interns for organizations such as Planned Parenthood and Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum\'s gubernatorial campaign.
