ABOUT CARVER WEIRICK
I am currently a 5/5 graduate student attending Stevens Institute of Technology where I completed my Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering in May of 2024. In the Fall of 2024, I will be pursuing a Master of Space Systems Engineering with a Graduate Certificate in Systems Engineering. At Stevens, I worked with JPL Engineer Dr. Jonathan Sauder on my Senior Design Project, Starburst: a concept for a new deployable antenna architecture. I worked with this team to conceptualize new, more efficient, ways to stow the antenna panels through alterations of deployment sequencing. The goal of Starburst is to reduce mission costs by minimizing payload size but also operate at higher frequencies (2-240 GHz) than other small satellites (<70GHz) currently in orbit. This is done by having a constellation of highly accurate deployable antennas (~20 microns) to capture a storms lifecycle instead of just one point in time.
