About Carter van Horn
I am a System Protection Technician at Dominion Energy, and I am currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering Technology at Old Dominion University. I also hold an A.A.S. in Electrical Engineering Technology from Brightpoint Community College. I take pride in being detail oriented, dependable, and committed to steady improvement through both hands on work and continued education.Before stepping into utility protection, I worked as an Electrical Test Technician at ABB, supporting testing and verification for critical power equipment, including PDU, STS, and UPS systems. I focused on consistent, safe execution of Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and clear documentation, and I also supported other technicians to keep work consistent and on standard.Earlier in my career, I worked as an Electrician’s Apprentice at Rudy L. Hawkins Electrical, where I built a strong foundation in industrial electrical construction, system installation, and maintenance. In 2024, I ranked second in overtime hours out of more than 200 employees while attending school full time, which reflects my work ethic, reliability, and ability to perform at a high level in demanding environments.I’m passionate about advancing in electrical engineering technology and combining technical expertise, analytical thinking, and leadership to support the reliability and innovation of modern power systems.
