Teaches \"Psychological Types,\" a graduate-level course on Jungian typology. Originally taught by Jungian analyst John Beebe, the course teaches the critical application of Jungian type theory to identify, analyze, and interpret conscious and unconscious communications in interpersonal interactions, as well as in intrapsychic dynamics. Focusing on the role of complexes and archetypes in the expression of individual typology, the course situates Jung’s typology in the larger context of his psychological system and of depth psychology generally.

ABOUT CAROL SHUMATE
I am a teacher, a scholar, and an author in the field of depth psychology (shumatedepthpsychology.com). My book Projection and Personality Development via the Eight-Function Model (Routledge 2021) discusses the shadow side of psychological type based on John Beebe’s eight-function model, and can act as a guide to development and self-fulfillment. I’m currently working on a book about how to live well in a narcissistic culture with the working Trickster Leaders, Trickster Culture. I studied with Jungian analyst John Beebe, a Harvard-trained psychiatrist in private practice in San Francisco from whom I learned the intricacies of his highly intricate model, an elaboration of Jung’s model of psychological type. I also worked with type practitioner Bob McAlpine, who administered MBTI® certification trainings to thousands of army officers and headed an educational training company. Together, Beebe and McAlpine represent the two strands of Jungian psychology that have grown estranged since Jung first published Psychological Types: depth psychology and psychological type. To continue their work, in 2010 I launched the online journal, Personality Type in Depth (http://typeindepth.com/) together with author Mark Hunziker, and in 2020 we joined with others to launch the Depth Typology Center, created to archive scholarly resources at the interface of depth psychology and psychological type.
