ABOUT CAROL PATTERSON
A graduate of UC Berkeley and Columbia University, British-American architect Carol Patterson brings over two decades of experience delivering complex, high-profile projects from concept to completion.Based in London, Carol has led the UK portfolio of internationally renowned practice OMA since 2007. As Design Director, she oversees large, multidisciplinary teams across the UK and internationally. A natural diplomat, Carol mitigates between the ambitions of the client and the complexities of regulatory, political, technical, financial and urban constraints to deliver projects from their feasibility stages through construction. Her work spans civic institutions, educational campuses, hospitality, large-scale masterplans, and cultural venues designed for dynamic public use. Her leadership has been central to over £1 billion in built work, including the Stirling Prize-shortlisted headquarters for Rothschild & Co.(2012), and Aviva Studios in Manchester (2023)—the UK’s largest publicly funded cultural venue since the Tate Modern.Carol’s realised projects are ambitious in scale, requiring intensive stakeholder engagement, and solving seemingly intractable issues through creative problem solving and design leadership.
