ABOUT CAROLINE CREWE-READ
I am delighted to be working with the Board of Trustees of the Army Central Fund as the charity\'s Director, awarding grant funding to projects and activities that improve the physical, mental and social well-being of serving British Army personnel, both Regular and Reserve, as well as their immediate families. I am also proud to be a member of the Benevolence Committee and Grants Committee for the Army Benevolent Fund, and a member of the Grants Committee for the Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust.I also serve the public sector through two non-executive roles. I am the Acting Chair of the Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Wales (RCAHMW), having chaired their Corporate Governance Committee between 2017-24. I am also a member of the National Lottery Heritage Fund (NLHF) Committee for Wales, helping to assess funding applications and determine grant decisions in Wales up to the value of £10m. Before joining the Armed Forces charity community my career was focused around the historic environment and heritage sector, where for twenty years I held a variety of leadership roles in both fundraising and programme / project management. My executive experience was gained first with English Heritage and then Historic England, where most recently I held the role of Head of Partnerships and Philanthropy, leading a team and a Trustee board to raise fundraised income to enable a diverse range of projects, helping to rescue more heritage at risk, create more opportunities for skills-based learning and apprenticeships, and open up more of the Historic England Archive.After leaving Historic England I spent a few years overseas, during which time I achieved a Distinction in my MA in Philanthropic Studies at the University of Kent. My dissertation focused on the potential for place-based philanthropy to help preserve and sustain Welsh cultural heritage. I have been a Fellow of the Royal Society for Arts, Commerce and Manufacture (RSA) for over 25 years.
