I was 8 when the Exxon Valdez oil spill happened, and apparently in addition to a serious concern for all of the wildlife, I also was very curious about who was supposed to be telling the story and getting the facts out about what was going to be done to fix it.\"Can I do that as a job someday?\" was apparently a question I asked my father several times during the evening news. I asked that same question again of my phenomenal professor when I took a crisis communications MBA-level class during law school, and was thrilled to find that the answer actually was \"yes!\" I spent many years being the one at the center of those situations on the agency side, fueled by the challenge of managing rapidly changing information, unifying employees in times of crisis and helping executives get to the truth and articulate a path forward. Those are still the things that make me tick professionally in my current role, where I lead a global team operating in a highly regulated, very complex and always evolving industry.
