ABOUT CAROLINE SORENSON

I’m a geographer with an interest in sustainability, hazard mitigation, and climate resilience. I hold a Master of Science in Geography from Virginia Tech. I specialized in collecting, analyzing, and visualizing spatial data to support data-driven decision-making and risk reduction efforts. My work centers on coastal flood risk and social vulnerability, including thesis research assessing flood exposure of older adults living in group settings. I bring in-depth knowledge of FEMA’s National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) and the Community Rating System (CRS), and I’m particularly interested in bridging technical analysis with policy-relevant insights.I’m known for translating complex data into clear, actionable reports, drawing from government datasets, GIS analyses, and inform stakeholders and decision-makers. I also bring strong project management and leadership skills, with experience coordinating multiple projects, collaborating across teams, and delivering high-quality work under tight deadlines.
