ABOUT CAROL VELANDIA
I am the founder and CEO of Equal Access Language Services LLC. My areas of expertise are language access, Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility, and Negotiation and Conflict Resolution. My purpose is to help your business or organization develop inclusive strategies to guarantee better access and outcomes for the multilingual communities. As an academic, I have developed curricula on Language Access and Negotiation and Conflict Transformation. These curricula has corporate applications and tools to help you develop: Better, more inclusive polices Cultural and Linguistically Appropriate Services Effective Language Access Strategies Transform conflicts into better relationships The industries where this content is relevant: Healthcare Legal Education In 2020 I earned the interprofesional scholarship GLOBALtimore granted by University of Maryland, Baltimore for my course: “Language as an Equalizer,” curriculum aimed to developing professionals in the human sciences that provide services to the Limited English Proficient community. In 2018, I was awarded with the Paul Harris distinction by Rotary International, after securing $20K grant for a rural hospital in Colombia to purchase crucial medical equipment for their maternal-fetal unit. In 2017 I received the Julee Kryder Coe Award for advocacy efforts related to immigrants’ rights. in 2015 I was President\'s fellow at University of Maryland and co-authored the white paper on Cultural Competency for the Baltimore campus. In 2013 I earned first prize in the country for the video: “Saving Lives in Many Languages” for the video contest organized by the Johns Hopkins Hospital: Seeing the World Through a Safer Lens. The video was adopted by the institution as part of their “Promise of Medicine” campaign. I am a person of integrity and strong ethics, always aiming to develop meaningful personal and professional relationships based in mutual collaboration and trust.
