I currently teach courses in modernist fiction and drama, business and professional writing, and first- and second year writing and critical thinking. Family in literature, children\'s lives in literature, and women\'s intercultural lives have been focuses in my recent first-year seminars. Pedagogy that encourages active learning through collaboration as well as individual activity shapes courses I teach. I also offer workshops, presentations, and individual academic success guidance to help students learn, in completing the reading, writing, and critical thinking required in a liberal arts education. My hope is to help prepare them for life-long, global learning, professional excellence, and service. ABOUT CAROL BRASINGTON WILSON

Committed to education\'s essential role in developing strong communities of equity and opportunity, I value models of education that emphasize active learning:\"growth mindset\"(Carol Dweck), Arthur Chickering\'s 7 Vectors of Student Development, and supportive, collaborative learning, service, and teaching. Drawing on theories of pedagogy in my classroom-teaching and advising-as-teaching, I strive for excellence through teaching practices that support undergraduates and faculty colleagues in fulfilling their learning goals. Those conceptual foundations support my classroom teaching in first-year seminars, second-year surveys of British and American literature, and major coursework in modernist literature. They also inform my leadership of professional development opportunities for faculty advisors and academic success programming for individuals and groups of undergraduate students. In leading teaching-learning experiences, I believe that learners benefit from clear presentation of complex material, scaffolded opportunities to explore the complexities of information and arguments, and supportive guidance in reading, writing, speaking, and critical thinking. In my experience, the best teaching and learning integrate conceptual competencies (theoretical concepts), informational competencies (specific information that provides evidence and support for explanations of ideas), and relational competencies (skills that allow them to speak and write with effective audience awareness, to develop collaborative, trustful learning and growth).
