ABOUT CARMEN MIDDLEDITCH

As the new Fundraising Manager for Felix Fund - The Bomb Disposal Charity, I couldn’t be more excited to have an opportunity to work for this amazing charity that does so much to support such an incredible community. I have very close links to the Bomb Disposal Community (I’ve been married to it for nearly 25 years!) and have witnessed, first-hand, the very real difference its support can make. I am very taken with the fact that Felix Fund supports families as well as serving and retired members from all parts of the bomb disposal world. Like many partners of serving military, life has not always been easy especially with 2 children and with my husband so often away on operations. I can only try and imagine the horrors that he and others in this role have had to face, but unless you’ve experienced what some of these very brave men and women have had to deal with, we can’t truly understand. So many have and still suffer PTSD and from what I understand now is that it’s something that never really goes away, but with help and support can be managed. It is also something that affects the family and the loved ones of the person suffering. I have seen first-hand the incredible support that Felix Fund can offer when after my husband’s tour in Afghanistan he had a much needed recuperation break in Derbyshire funded by the charity. We have, since it was first formed in 2011, been big supporters and therefore when the opportunity for this role came along, I couldn’t think of a more perfect role for me. The charity has come such a long way over the years especially with the Dashboard courses, which has become so popular there is a waiting list! Whilst the charity has mainly relied on grant funding, in order to expand and continue offering these vital breaks, we need to attract more corporate funding and this is the area that I will be working towards developing. I hope that my background in sales & marketing as well a love of helping others will see me succeed in this incredible role.
