Recent speaking engagements - Valley Community Counseling Services - July 2025 - San Joaquin County, CA (online)- American Counseling Association National Conference - March 2025 - Orlando, FL (in person)-\"Empowering Survivors of Intimate Partner Violence: Practical Strategies from Polyvagal Carmen McHenry is a mental health therapist and EMDR Approved Consultant who has specialized in the treatment of trauma during her 25 years in the field. Carmen has worked with child and adult trauma survivors in a variety of settings including an adolescent homeless shelter, domestic violence shelter, residential children\'s center, inpatient psychiatric hospital, outpatient community mental health agency, and currently in private practice outpatient therapy in a suburb of Kansas City, Missouri. She utilizes EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing) to help clients heal. Carmen currently provides individual and group consultation for EMDR therapists who are working towards certification. She enjoys providing therapy for therapists, which is currently a growing section of her caseload. She provides professional trainings for therapists on specific techniques to help domestic violence and sexual assault survivors. Carmen\'s experience of trauma survivors\' interactions with the legal system has prompted her to begin to develop training for attorneys, judges, and other legal professionals. Carmen\'s belief is that when other professionals become trauma-informed, they serve survivors in a more beneficial manner. Carmen can also provide training/coaching for parents and educators of gifted and ADHD children, Polyvagal Theory, empowering survivors of domestic abuse/parenting during postseparation abuse, mental wellness for businesses, and presentations tailored to specific audiences on becoming trauma informed. Carmen\'s genuine, enthusiastic speaking style keeps audiences engaged and entertained whilst learning about heavy subjects.
