ABOUT CARLY VARNEY
People specialist/strategist, business partner, employment lawyer, HR projects. I am currently working as HR Manager for the UK retail business Nolte Kitchens. At the end of last year (2022) I completed an interim role as HR Change Manager at the British Red Cross. In this role for the BRC I focused on the delivery of key transformation and change activity to ensure the ongoing success and sustainability of this fabulous organisation. In my previous role for ibex gale, I provided strategic people management expertise to a range of public and private sector organisations. This included leading change projects such as restructures, redundancies, transfer of employees following M & As, investigating complex workplace disputes, team/department cultural reviews/fact finds and bespoke strategic people projects. From February to May 2023 I also completed an interim operational and organisational design project for ibex. I obtained my PG diploma in HR Management (level 7) in 2017 and from 2017 to 2018 worked for a property investment company based in the UK as their HR Manager. This was a full generalist HR role on the management team covering the Head of HR on an interim basis. In this role, I supported the company with its people strategy during a period of significant change and growth resulting from a number of property acquisitions and disposals. I am a qualified employment lawyer and worked for an international law firm from 20••••14 regularly advising FTSE 100 and 250 organisations on large scale restructures and all people related matters. In 2014, I set up as a legal and HR consultant and worked on a number of employment law and people management projects for private and public sector clients. This included business reorganisations, strategic HR audits (what are the issues/trends, why is this happening, what can we do), contractual and policy/process reviews including implementation and engagement initiatives, workplace investigations and training design, delivery and evaluation. Over the last few years, as my children have grown, I have been able to take some time to contribute to local and community initiatives and volunteered as an Enterprise Adviser, providing strategic support to a further education establishment developing the careers programme for students.
