About Carl Sterner

I am interested in how to rapidly re-orient society toward a sustainable future — one that is not only ecologically viable over the long term, but is also more equitable, humane, and joyous.This work has focused on the AEC industry because of my background as an architect, but also because of this industry’s potential to reshape our world.As a designer, I help forward-thinking clients create Passive House, Net Zero Energy, and socially responsible architecture; and I help architecture & engineering firms integrate sustainable design and performance analysis into their projects and design processes. I’m also interested in how architecture can help to serve as a catalyst for broader social change — those deeper, harder, more systemic shifts in our economy, culture, and worldview that are necessary for a more sustainable society.As a product manager and marketer, I helped to create Sefaira Architecture, one of the most widely-used energy- and daylight simulation tools on the market, helping to grow the company from an early-stage startup to a global company with multi-million in Annual Recurring Revenue. A passionate storyteller and evangelist, I helped develop the product vision and roadmap, establish Enterprise sales, and drive worldwide market recognition, penetration, and growth.

   Sol is a leader in sustainability consulting and green building certification. As Vice President of Design and Sustainability, I oversee Sol\'s architectural design studio, which provides full-service architectural design for projects with ambitious sustainability goals - including regenerative, Passive House, and low-carbon projects. I also provide consulting for commercial clients, including LEED certification of large commercial and industrial buildings.
