About Carlos Villarreal

Great leadership has been my most valued source of inspiration. As a young supply chain executive, newly arrived in the U.S, I was fortunate to have been trained and mentored by a handful of excellent leaders. As I developed skills and expertise, and added areas of responsibility, these individuals worked closely with me to hone my strategic and analytical skills. Most of all, they taught me how to assess and support the growth of my team to solve challenges in operations and supply chain management. The focus on people has been the underlying theme that has defined my work over the past 20+ years. Continuous improvement, systems, and best practices are built on effective team development and leadership, and I have applied this lesson in solving numerous challenges. At Natus Medical, I faced the challenge of creating and improving the processes and tools to scale the business from $13M to $150M P&L. The first phase of this process involved soliciting and organizing feedback from department leaders and stakeholders to understand the business pain points to build effective organizational management and leadership structure to support the business goals. Based on these insights, I led the collaboration to execute two ERP implementations,(Baan and Oracle), and integrate 15 new product lines as part of the M&A process. This saved $6.2M from design transfer to engineering and operations. As a result, we were able to grow budgeted gross margin from 40% to 62%, focusing on core competencies, utilizing Lean Manufacturing tools, and outsourcing non-value-added processes. When I transitioned from Medical to Biotech, I was presented with the challenge of deriving a consistent approach toward managing the forecasting process of current products and our ability to launch new ones. By using our ERP system, and collaborating with key stakeholders, I was able to correlate historical and current sales data to drive more accurate forecasting and improve cash flow and inventory management. My goal is two-fold; to provide support through meaningful innovation to address the complexities facing the global supply-chain infrastructure; and to support effective digital transformation with next-generation leadership.
