Director, Hub Control Center @American Airlines
Chicago, IL, US
As Director of Hub Operations at one of the busiest surface airports in the country, I lead strategic transformation and drive collaborative operational improvements within the Hub Control Center. Partnering closely with cross-functional teams, frontline employees, and key stakeholders, I’ve led and helped to elevate our station’s performance across multiple core metrics.Key accomplishments include:Year-over-Year improvement in on-time departures, achieved through coordinated planning, real-time decision-making, and alignment across departments.Substantial reduction in our station’s mishandled baggage ratio, by working closely with ramp operations, baggage services, and technology partners to streamline surface movement.Enhanced de-icing throughput, driven by collaborative efforts with airport authorities, vendors, and internal teams to optimize resources available during critical weather events.I’ve cultivated a culture of continuous improvement and accountability by challenging the status quo and encouraging innovative thinking. At the heart of this role is a commitment to teamwork—bringing people together to solve complex problems, deliver exceptional results, and strengthen the operation of a critical hub within American Airlines’ network.

ABOUT CARLOS JIMENEZ
I was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, where, at a young age, I believed that curiosity wouldn’t get me far. Little did I know then that this very curiosity would become the driving force behind both my professional success and personal growth. My career began humbly, working as a baggage handler at the airport. At the time, it felt like a dream come true—one I was ready to embrace for a lifetime. But life had other plans. An inner spark pushed me toward the skies, leading me to pursue certifications as a pilot and eventually become a flight instructor. That step marked the beginning of a lifelong journey of learning and transformation. While building my flying career and navigating my role within an airline, I enrolled in school, chasing higher education and new skills to feed my ever-curious mind. Over the next 25 years, I transitioned from loading aircraft to leading ramp teams. I took on my first leadership role in a new state, where I could barely speak the language. It was a rollercoaster—one I embraced fully. That same curiosity never left me. I became a supervisor in the Hub Control Center for the airline’s largest hub, later managing the weight and balance operation. I led teams in the flight dispatch sector and eventually became the operations director for the global network. Most recently, I’ve had the privilege of leading operations at one of the nation’s busiest surface airports, as we continue to expand and evolve. While my flight experience and academic background laid the foundation, it’s my commitment to challenging the status quo and fostering collaboration that I value most. I’ve led multiple projects focused on process improvement, operational reliability, and innovation. Through it all, that curious, dynamic, and strategic mindset has remained my compass—driving me to grow, lead, and keep reaching higher.
