Carlos Gemmell is the co-founder & CTO of Malted AI, a company focused on distilled Small Language Model (SLM) solutions for enterprises. He has worked at Meta FAIR labs working alongside the Llama 2 and CodeLlama teams, focusing on teaching LLMs to use tools through synthetic data.Carlos led the winning Amazon Alexa Prize TaskBot team as one of 125+ global AI teams, scaling practical applications of large language models to users across the US. He is writing up his Ph.D. thesis from the University of Glasgow, supervised by Jeff Dalton, working on tool reasoning for language models. His work is published at EMNLP, SIGIR and has delivered talks at Stanford University.
