ABOUT CARL ASUNCION

Carl Asuncion is a monitoring and performance measurement expert specializing in quantitative data collection, analysis, visualization, and reporting. As the Manager, Data Analytics and Reporting, at the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC), Emergency Management Branch, his main responsibilities are:(1) data quality assurance of personal protective equipment (PPE) and other medical supplies;(2) support the development and implementation of a national data strategy for improved management and reporting of the National Emergency Strategic Stockpile (NESS). Carl is also a freelance Data Systems and Analytics Consultant. He provides strategic advice and technical assistance on the development and use of integrated and cloud-based management information systems for effective and democratic use of organizational data assets. To this end, he conducts workshops to understand client needs towards sustainable solutions and provides training on data modeling, analytics, and visualization. Previously, Carl was a Senior Program Manager at MEDA. During his tenure, he supported 13 projects spanning 12 countries with the development and implementation of holistic monitoring, evaluation, research, and learning plans. Other international development work includes the International Development Research Center (IDRC) to support the Canadian International Food Security Research Fund (CIFSRF), PROTEGE QV (Yaoundé, Cameroon) to manage an urban agriculture project, and Asociación Kallpa (Iquitos, Peru) to implement a holistic health program. Carl is passionate about data-driven decision-making, food security, traveling with a purpose, and experiencing new cultures. He has work experience in Cameroon, Canada, Haiti, India, Indonesia, Myanmar, Netherlands, Nicaragua, Peru, Senegal, Tanzania, and Ukraine. Carl speaks English, French, and Spanish fluently and is learning Hindi to communicate better with his extended family.
