ABOUT CARLA HANDAL
As a passionate advocate for public health and healthcare equity, I am driven by a deep commitment to serving underprivileged communities. I recently completed my Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences from Florida State University and am currently pursuing a Master of Public Health at the University of South Florida. With a background in biological research and a focus on public health, my goal is to bridge gaps in healthcare access and make a meaningful impact through policy and direct patient care.During my undergraduate studies, I conducted research on antibiotic resistance using Drosophila melanogaster as a model organism, which further solidified my interest in solving complex health challenges. I have experience working with diverse communities, particularly Hispanic outdoor laborers, where I explored the epidemiology of heat-related illnesses due to climate change.In addition to my academic journey, I am actively preparing for medical school, with the goal of becoming a primary care physician. I aim to specialize in underserved areas, combining my passion for medicine with public health to address healthcare disparities. My experiences have taught me the importance of collaboration, resilience, and the power of community-driven solutions in creating sustainable change.
