ABOUT CARLA DE SOUSA
I am a mental health professional with international training in occupational therapy. I currently do not hold a license to practice as a regulated health professional in Canada, but I am pursuing the equivalence of my credentials to obtain occupational therapist registration.I bring over 10 years of experience in Brazil, working in psychiatric hospitals and community mental health programs, supporting adults and older adults with serious mental illnesses, often associated with substance use or social vulnerability. My approach has always been client-centered, trauma-informed, and based on dignity and autonomy. In Canada, I have over four years of experience as a Rehabilitation Support Worker, working primarily with individuals with acquired brain injury (ABI), neurocognitive challenges, and mental health conditions. I work in home and community settings, collaborating with interdisciplinary teams, including occupational therapists, psychologists, social workers, physiotherapists, and speech-language pathologists. This ongoing transition from international practice to the Canadian healthcare context has been both challenging and transformative. This deepened my commitment to inclusive and culturally responsive care and strengthened my passion for disability advocacy, functional support, and neurorehabilitation for adults and older adults. I offer services in Portuguese and English.
