About Carla Seal-Wanner
Since the late 70’s Carla has explored pioneering design, production and evaluation methods for interactive media. With a doctorate in Human Development, from Harvard University her contributions have focused on creating media to improve children’s cognitive-educational attainment, and social-emotional lives - research has focused on the socialization effects and educational potential of media on child and adolescent development. After combining careers as a children\'s educational TV producer and Professor at Columbia University (1986-95), as Director of the Graduate Program in Instructional Technology and Media,* Carla moved into multimedia production and media advocacy.*{A pioneering curriculum applying theories of cognitive and developmental psychology, visualization, instructional design, evaluation, and computer-mediated learning to the development of effective media.} In 1995 she co-founded MindWorks Media, a children’s interactive media production company. In 1998 she established @ccess4@ll, a public interest advocacy organization devoted to securing access to quality media for economically disadvantaged children. For the past decade, as Director of Education and Curriculum @ Flickerlab she has had the opportunity to apply her expertise to the innovative media developed for the child\'s multi-platform universe. Determined to help youngsters become ace media creators-consumers, Flickerlab\'s technology incubator keeps cranking out tools for her to put into the hands of young digerati. As Executive Director of Climate Cartoons (a 501c3, with initial funding from the MacArthur Foundation) she gives students animation tools to use their creativity as climate change activists. Carla contributed to the development of several signature PBS Series – 3-2-1 Contact, SQUARE ONE TV, Reading Rainbow, as well as Nickelodeon’s Blues Clues and NOGGIN. and serves as a senior content advisor to many significant ‘new media’ developers.
