Lead all aspects of AFSP’s research grants program, which awards over $8 million in new scientific studies annually (over $23 million total portfolio of 120+ active grants for 2022): Applicant recruitment, application processing (approx. 200/yr), online review process by 250 off-site experts over three rounds of reviews, award/non-award notification, funded grant initiation/payment/reporting/payment/closeout, applicant feedback. Lead all programming related to new (2021) researcher outreach and training programs. Of special note:• Lead grant applicant recruitment/marketing via mail, listserv, tabling.• Present at 2-3 in-person and 2-3 virtual conferences and trainings per year on AFSP grants program and opportunities for those outside the suicide field to propose novel studies of interest.• Manage online grant review preparation and process for 250+ off-site subject matter experts (SMEs) over three rounds of reviews including providing high volume of on-demand guidance and clarification to reviewers.• Counsel applicants, reviewers, and grantees on issues related to project structure, budgets, review criteria, personnel, grant-writing, research priority areas, study planning, mentor selection, study modifications, etc.• Manage award notification, conduct non-award notification, and provide individualized feedback letters to the 150+ annual applicants not funded, after drafted by SVP.• Curate and disseminate monthly newsletter for AFSP and suicide prevention scientific community (launched 2021).• Plan and provide 4-6 researcher development virtual webinars, trainings, and/or networking events per year; for 2022, create new 3-day Mentoring Bootcamp for unfunded early career researchers to revise applications and further develop their lines of research.• Work with team and Communications to develop appropriate public messaging and materials, and assist team with new efforts to provide current research findings to staff and the community.
