About Carl D. Marci
I am an experienced physician-executive, neuroscientist, author, and health tech entrepreneur focused on translating neuroscience, real-world data, and AI into scalable solutions that improve mental health, clinical decision-making, and patient outcomes. I currently serve as a fractional Chief Medical Officer multiple venture backed health technology companies, where I lead enterprise clinical strategy at the intersection of data science, product development, and healthcare delivery. I have supported organizations across the product lifecycle, from research and development through commercialization. Alongside my executive role, I maintain a small outpatient psychiatry practice at Massachusetts General Hospital and serve as a part-time Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School. My career spans industry, academia, and entrepreneurship, with deep expertise in digital and physiological biomarkers, the neuroscience of emotion, and the responsible application of AI in healthcare. I have completed two National Institutes of Health fellowships, hold eight U.S. patents, and have published extensively in peer-reviewed scientific journals while lecturing nationally and internationally. My early entrepreneurial background includes co-founding Innerscope Research, a consumer neuroscience company integrating applied science and technology to inform business decision-making, which was acquired by Nielsen in 2015. I am particularly interested in how technology shapes cognition, emotion, and empathy, and how data-driven tools can be designed to strengthen not diminish human capacity. This perspective inspired my book, Rewired: Protecting Your Brain in the Digital Age (Harvard University Press, 2022), and continues to guide my leadership, research, and advisory work. Colleagues describe my style as curious, pragmatic, and values-driven, with a strong emphasis on evidence, collaboration, and long-term impact. I welcome conversations with leaders, founders, and investors advancing thoughtful, human-centered innovation across healthcare, neuroscience, and AI.
