About Carin Bigrigg
How much do your subject matter experts know about what instructional designers do? Have you ever heard one subject matter expert explain adult learning theory and instructional design to another? I consider these occurrences — when colleagues use the information I’ve shared to help move the project forward — as high points of my career. While subject matter experts don’t have to have this information, knowing why we do what we do and why we request the types of information we do can help improve translation of their knowledge and reference materials into effective training materials. As a remote instructional design strategist, I’m passionate about adult learning theory and consider multiple factors — including performance needs, business objectives, and learner needs analysis — while developing effective instructional material. I love distilling key concepts from complex source content into an organized and engaging course or curriculum while remaining unwaveringly learner centric. • I’m known for working effectively — consulting, influencing, and collaborating — with my business partners to create effective training content that’s compelling and easy to digest. • I bring a feeling of enthusiasm, interest, and even excitement to every working session, which isn’t easy with compliance training. • My design colleagues regularly engage with me to brainstorm learning and development options, design, technology, and graphics to engage learners, create performance and skill-based learning, and increase retention. I’m looking for remote opportunities that will allow me to advocate for learners while designing and developing creative, interactive, actionable content. Email me at c••••@darkraven.guru.
