About James Scott Cardinal

For over two decades, I have been fascinated by the stories that data can tell about the past and the present. As an archaeologist and a data scientist, I combine my skills in spatial and quantitative analysis, machine learning, and natural language processing to uncover patterns and insights from complex and unstructured data sources. Currently, I am a senior project manager and museum scientist at New York State Museum, where I lead projects to evaluate and mitigate the risks to cultural and heritage resources. I also serve as a founding partner at Rubicon Insight Social Consulting LLC, where I apply my anthropological knowledge and analytical skills to advise clients on the social aspects of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) factors, corporate social responsibility (CSR), and public policy. In addition, I hold a Master of Science in Data Science from Georgia Institute of Technology and a Master of Arts in Anthropology from University at Albany, SUNY. My passion is to explore the realms of unsupervised and semi-supervised learning, Bayesian analysis, graph-based algorithms, and natural language understanding, and to apply them to various domains and challenges. I am always eager to learn new methods and technologies, and to share my findings and experience with others. My goal is to leverage data to inform decisions, solve problems, and create value for society.
