ABOUT CARA FINNEGAN
I am a writer, teacher, writing coach and photography historian. My most recent book, Photographic Presidents: Making History from Daguerreotype to Digital, was published by University of Illinois Press in 2021. I also write fiction and am currently drafting a research-intensive family memoir tentatively titled \"Searching for Katherine.\" It\'s about, well. you can probably guess. More on that project when I\'m ready to share. I also coach academics who want to write non-academic stories. I am an Author Accelerator certified book coach (check them out at where I help writers develop and structure their novels, memoirs, and non-fiction stories for a general readership. It\'s been exciting to take this step to build on my 20+ years of experience mentoring writers. Learn more about my coaching practice at In addition to research and teaching, I have spent most of my career at the University of Illinois in leadership roles. These include directing the campus\'s general education course in Oral and Written Communication, running the Communication department\'s graduate program, serving as associate head of the Communication department, and working as interim associate dean for humanities and arts at the Graduate College. Above all, I love writing and research and working one-on-one with writers to bring their creative ideas to life.
